Recap: San Jose vs. Columbus
San Jose, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Mark Letestu deflected in David Savard's shot with 20.7 seconds remaining to lift the Columbus Blue Jackets over the San Jose Sharks, 5-4, on Thursday.
Nick Foligno's power-play goal with 8:20 to play in regulation tied the game at four. Letestu then deflected in Savard's shot from the right point to give Columbus the win.
"It's a great victory now but we can spoil it in 24 hours," said Letestu.
Ryan Johansen and Letestu each had two goals for the Blue Jackets, who improved to 4-2-0 on the young season. Foligno had one goal and two assists.
Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 33-of-37 shots in the victory.
Joe Pavelski scored two goals for the Sharks, who have lost three in a row. Adam Burish and Logan Couture also lit the lamp.
Antti Niemi turned aside 23-of-28 shots.
"You give up five, you're not winning," said Sharks coach Todd McLellan. "Our defensive play right now is killing us."
The Sharks grabbed a quick 1-0 lead when Burish scored from the left circle 5:11 into the game.
Pavelski tipped in Couture's shot from the point for a power-play goal at 14:44 of the opening period.
Johansen got Columbus on the board at 8:22 of the second when he lifted a backhand shot over Niemi's shoulder.
Letestu scored a short-handed goal at 12:13 to make it 2-2. Johansen then scored his second goal of the period at the 13:36 mark.
The Sharks pulled even 2:05 into the third when Pavelski scored from the right circle.
Couture made it 4-3 San Jose at 8:23 of the third, intercepting a pass from defenseman Cody Goloubef deep in the Columbus zone and beating Bobrovsky from in close.Game Notes
Each team went 1-for-5 on the power play ... Columbus gave up its first power-
play goal of the season ... Blue Jackets forward Jack Skille played in his
200th NHL game.
