Recap: San Jose vs. Philadelphia
San Jose, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Matt Nieto scored with 11.5 seconds to play as the San Jose Sharks stole a 2-1 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday.
In the waning moments of the contest, Patrick Marleau came charging down the middle and got a shot off that Steve Mason was able to turn aside.
However, Mason came out of the crease to try and play the rebound and was crashed into by Tommy Wingels, allowing Nieto to snap the disc into the open net for the winning goal.
"It was kind of a scramble in front of the net and when you're not scoring you have to, general rule of thumb is get to the net, and I tried to get there as fast as I could and luckily the puck bounced straight out for me," said Nieto.
Marc-Edouard Vlasic had the other goal and Antti Niemi turned away 28 shots for the Sharks, who have won their past two.
Sean Couturier scored the only goal of the game for the Flyers, who have lost their past five games. Mason stopped 25 shots in defeat.
"The team played a good game but if you don't win it's not good enough," said Mason.
It was the Flyers drawing first blood in this game, with Couturier ringing a wrist shot in off the left post from the left circle for a power-play goal at six minutes of the first period.
The Sharks tied the game with 2:16 to play in the second period off a rush play that saw Logan Couture send the puck from the slot to the right wing for Wingels, who sent it back to the slot where a trailing Vlasic wristed it home for his third of the year.Game Notes
