Recap: Edmonton vs. Vancouver

Edmonton, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - Ryan Miller posted 28 saves for his first shutout of the season and the Vancouver Canucks took a 2-0 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Friday.

Radim Vrbata scored the winning goal in the second period for the Canucks, who have won their first three games of the season.

"It was an important game for us to keep things moving along," said Miller. "It was a good battle for both teams."

Ben Scrivens allowed just one goal on 29 shots for the Oilers, who are winless in their first five games of the season (0-4-1) for the first time since 1992.

"We have to find a way to come out on top," Scrivens said. "Despite us playing better, we have to push through and find a way."

Vrbata's goal came at the 15:49 mark of the second, as Daniel Sedin picked up the puck to the left of the net and skated to the other side before firing it across the goal mouth to give Vrbata an easy tap and his third goal of the season.

Miller made 11 saves in the second period, then turned aside seven in the third as Vancouver was able to keep out of the penalty box in the frame.

Sedin's empty-net goal in the final seconds accounted for the final score.

Game Notes

Miller has 30 shutouts in his career ... Vancouver hosts Tampa Bay on Saturday ... Edmonton hosts Tampa Bay on Monday ... It was Vancouver's second win over Edmonton already this season, having taken a 5-4 shootout victory on Oct. 11 in Vancouver.
