Recap: San Jose vs. Carolina

San Jose, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Jay Harrison scored with 42 seconds to play in overtime to lead the Carolina Hurricanes in a 3-2 win over the San Jose Sharks.

Andrej Sekera fired a shot on net from the left point that was stopped, but Elias Lindhollm was there to pass the rebound over to the right where Harrison slammed it into the open net for the win.

"In the overtime we had some sustained pressure, we were moving the puck low to high, the D were involved," Harrison said. "If you watch the play again you'll see the D moving a lot up and down. That creates a little bit of havoc and causes the defense to have to turn. It was a real heads up play made by Lindholm to put it in the open space where I was and I had a pretty easy task of just banging it in."

Lindholm and Jiri Tlusty also scored for the Hurricanes, who snapped a season- high tying five-game losing streak.

Carolina goaltender Anton Khudobin celebrated his new contact with a 35-save performance. He reached an agreement on a two-year, $4.5 million deal earlier in the day.

Marty Havlat and Brent Burns scored for the Sharks, who have dropped two of three. Alex Stalock stopped 32 shots in the loss.

"It's frustrating any time you lose a game, whether it's in overtime, regulation, whatever," Sharks coach Todd McLellan said. "I thought we played the game in two segments. The first half we were struggling to find our legs and execution. We were flat for whatever reason. We reacted slowly"

Carolina got on the board at 12:07 of the first period as Tlusty skated in on a breakaway and slipped a backhand between the pads of Stalock.

San Jose, though, answered 58 seconds later when Tyler Kennedy threw a shot on net from the right boards that was stopped, but Havlat was there to knock home the rebound.

The Sharks then took a 2-1 lead with 28 seconds to play in the first after Khudobin tried to play the puck behind his net and had it stolen by James Sheppard, who whipped it to the front where Raffi Torres sent a short pass to his left and Burns wristed it home.

The Hurricanes tied the game at 4:16 of the second when Eric Staal held the puck behind the net and spotted a pinching Lindholm in the slot for a one- timer into the net.

Khudobin turned away 16 shots in the third period while Stalock made seven stops to force overtime.
