Recap: Anaheim vs. Los Angeles

Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Dwight King scored in the ninth round of the shootout to lead the Los Angeles Kings in a 3-2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks.

The first 16 skaters failed to find the back of the net in the shootout before King buried a wrister past Jonas Hiller for the lead.

"Basically, a lot of guys shot glove, some guys hit iron," said King. "My look when I was going down was to try to surprise him with a quick shot."

Martin Jones, playing in his first NHL game, then stopped Mathieu Perreault's weak offering for the win.

Dustin Brown and Jeff Carter scored, while Jones made 26 stops for the Kings, who have won their past two games.

Corey Perry had a goal and an assist and Ryan Getzlaf also scored for the Ducks, who have dropped three of four. Hiller turned aside 49 shots in defeat.

"It's tough to lose that way," said Hiller. "I don't know if he missed a shot a little bit, but it kind of caught me right between the pad and my glove. It's a tough one."

After a scoreless first period, Los Angeles took a 1-0 lead as the team lost a left circle faceoff in the Anaheim end, but the puck wound up on the stick of Carter in the slot and he wristed it home for his seventh of the year at 7:05 of the second.

Less than a minute later, Anaheim evened the score as a wrister from Hampus Lindholm was stopped, but Getzlaf was at the right side to whack the rebound out of the air.

The Ducks then took a 2-1 lead at 2:14 of the third on a power play when Perry found himself in the slot and turned around before lifting a backhand in.

Los Angeles, though, tied the game at 5:43 of the third as a right circle faceoff win saw Brown wrist the puck and it went off the glove of Hiller and in.

Anaheim skated on a 5-on-3 for 1:04 in overtime but was unable to net the winner.

Game Notes

Anaheim plays in Chicago on Friday, and St. Louis on Saturday in a quick road trip ... Los Angeles hosts the Islanders on Saturday ... These teams split four games lat season, with Los Angeles winning five of six in the 2011-12 campaign.
