Uniondale, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Islanders activated forward Cal Clutterbuck from injured reserve on Wednesday.

Clutterbuck suffered a skate laceration to his right thigh during a Sept. 17 preseason game against the Calgary Flames.

The 25-year-old Ontario native was signed to a four-year deal worth a reported $11 million in early July after being acquired from Minnesota in a draft-day trade that sent prospect Nino Niederreiter to the Wild.

Clutterbuck had just four goals and six assists in 42 games with Minnesota last season, two years removed from setting career-high marks in 2010-11 with 19 goals and 15 assists.

To make room for Clutterbuck, the Islanders returned defenseman Griffin Reinhart to the Edmonton Oil Kings of the Western Hockey League.

Reinhart, 19, appeared in four exhibition games with the Islanders this preseason and notched one goal and one assist.
