New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Pittsburgh Penguins center Evgeni Malkin was recognized as the NHL's top performer for the week ending Dec. 1 and the second consecutive week.
Malkin led all players with nine points, posting six assists and three goals. He helped the Penguins to win three of four games to stay atop the Metropolitan Division.
The 27-year-old achieved his first multi-goal game of the season, registering two goals and an assist including the shootout clincher, in a 6-5 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs Nov. 27. He has an eight-game point streak dating to Nov. 18. He leads the NHL with 28 assists and is second in points with 35.
Detroit Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall was named the Second Star. He managed three multi-point games to help Detroit win all three of their games during the week. Kronwall posted a pair of two-assist games.
Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Duncan Keith earned Third Star honors. He dished out six assists and helped the Blackhawks win all four of their games and gain the top spot in the NHL standings. He leads all defensemen with 23 assists and has a point streak of seven games dating back to Nov. 19.
