Berea, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - The Cleveland Browns have signed quarterback Caleb Hanie, who could start Sunday's game against New England because of injuries to Brandon Weeden and Jason Campbell.

Weeden suffered a concussion during this past Sunday's game against Jacksonville, while Campbell has not been cleared to practice because of a concussion he sustained the week before against Pittsburgh.

The other quarterback on the Browns' roster is Alex Tanney, who was signed off the practice squad of the Dallas Cowboys last week.

Hanie, in his sixth NFL season, appeared in 10 games with four starts with the Chicago Bears from 2008-11. He spent last season as the third quarterback with the Denver Broncos and did not take a snap.

The Colorado State product saw his most extensive playing time in 2011 after Jay Cutler suffered a broken thumb late in the season. He completed 51-of-102 passes for 613 yards with three touchdowns and nine interceptions in his six games that season. The Bears, though, lost each of his four starts.

Hanie, overall, has thrown for 679 yards with three scores and 10 picks in 10 games.

The Browns opened a roster spot by placing linebacker Brandon Magee on injured reserve. Magee appeared in eight games this season and notched three special teams tackles.
