Berea, OH (Sports Network) - In an effort to add depth to an injury-plagued interior of their offensive line, the Cleveland Browns acquired guard John Moffitt from the Seattle Seahawks on Monday in exchange for defensive lineman Brian Sanford.
A third-round pick of Seattle in the 2011 draft, Moffitt started 15 games for the Seahawks during his first two NFL seasons, but had been bypassed by second-year pro J.R. Sweezy on the depth chart at right guard during camp.
The Wisconsin product joins a Cleveland team that has two of its top three guards, Shawn Lauvao and Jason Pinkston, currently battling injuries that are expected to keep both out for the upcoming season opener. Lauvao underwent surgery on his left ankle earlier this month, while Pinkston is dealing with a high ankle sprain.
Sanford has appeared in six games with the Browns over the past two seasons, but has just five tackles to his credit.
