Houston, TX ( - The Houston Texans have named defensive coordinator Wade Phillips as the club's interim head coach while Gary Kubiak continues his recovery from a mini-stroke he suffered this past Sunday.

Kubiak fell to one knee while running off the field at halftime of Sunday's game against Indianapolis and was carted off the field. He was diagnosed as having suffered a transient ischemic attack, also known as a mini-stroke, and was released from the hospital Tuesday.

In a statement upon his release from the hospital, Kubiak said he was told by doctors that a full recovery was forthcoming but that a return to his coaching duties was not yet determined.

Phillips stepped in for Kubiak on Sunday when the Texans blew a 21-3 halftime lead and dropped a 27-24 decision to the Colts. He will again be in charge on Sunday when Houston visits Arizona.

"I'm just keeping the seat warm," said Phillips on Wednesday.

The 66-year-old Phillips has been a head coach with Dallas, Buffalo and Denver and also has experience as an interim head coach, performing those duties previously with Atlanta (2003) and New Orleans (1985).
