Orchard Park, NY (Sports Network) - The Buffalo Bills released veteran quarterback Tarvaris Jackson on Monday.

Jackson was acquired from the Seattle Seahawks for a seventh-round pick last September, but never took the field in the regular season.

After re-signing with the Bills in the offseason, Jackson was at first expected to compete for a starting job under new head coach Doug Marrone, but the Bills signed former Arizona starter Kevin Kolb and used their first-round choice in April's draft on Florida State signal-caller E.J. Manuel.

Jackson started 14 games for the Seahawks in 2011 and threw for career-highs in yards (3,091) and touchdowns (14).

Prior to joining Seattle, Jackson spent his first five seasons in Minnesota, where he passed for 3,984 yards and 24 touchdowns over 36 games and 20 starts.
