Recap: Minnesota vs. Miami
Minneapolis, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - Kevin Martin hit the go-ahead jumper with 41 seconds remaining to lift the Minnesota Timberwolves to a 102-101 win over the Miami Heat on Wednesday night.
Martin poured in 30 points for the Timberwolves, who snapped a six-game home losing streak against the Heat. Thaddeus Young had 16 points and five steals, while Nikola Pekovic and Gorgui Dieng each scored 13 points.
Hassan Whiteside made his first 11 shots and finished with 24 points and 20 rebounds for Miami, which squandered a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter.
Luol Deng scored 18 points and Norris Cole added 15 as Miami lost for the fourth time in five games.
The Heat led 88-78 when Cole drained a 3-pointer from the right corner with 9:47 left. The Timberwolves battled back to tie it at 90 on a Martin trey, then went up 98-94 on a dunk by Young with 3:24 to play.
Chris Bosh, however, hit a jumper from the right elbow to give Miami 101-100 lead. Martin then answered by nailing a shot from the free throw line.
A miscue by Cole after the inbounds pass gave the ball back to Minnesota with a chance to extends its lead, but Martin missed a 3-pointer.
Miami had two opportunities to move ahead and came up empty both times. Mario Chalmers missed a running layup and Cole fired a 3-pointer off the rim in the dying seconds.
"Our execution down the stretch in the fourth quarter was not good enough," said Miami coach Erik Spoelstra.
The Heat were down as many as nine in the first half and didn't grab their first lead until a Deng jumper made it 59-57 in the third quarter.Game Notes
