Recap: New York vs. Washington

New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Bradley Beal scored 28 points, including the game-winning jumper with 22.9 seconds remaining and the Washington Wizards edged the New York Knicks, 90-89, on Friday at Madison Square Garden.

Raymond Felton's corner 3-pointer with 33.5 seconds left gave New York an 89-88 edge, but out of a timeout, Beal restored Washington's margin by shaking Iman Shumpert and hitting nothing but nylon on a midrange pull-up.

The Knicks took a timeout and put the ball in Carmelo Anthony's hands, but the All-Star lost the ball on a drive as the clock neared zero. J.R. Smith, who led New York with 32 points, came up with it and had one final look, but his 3-point try was off the mark as the buzzer sounded.

John Wall had 19 points and nine assists for Washington, winners in four of five.

"We got stops and we played the right way," said Wall. "We made it tough on those guys."

Anthony finished with a season-low 10 points on 5-of-14 shooting for the Knicks, who fell one game behind the Atlanta Hawks for eighth place in the Eastern Conference.

"It was a tough loss," Anthony said. "I wish I would have played better."

After the game, the Knicks revealed Anthony has a strained right shoulder. X- rays were negative and he is expected to play Sunday at Miami.

New York led 67-64 heading into the fourth quarter, but Martell Webster's triple to start the fourth tied it up and sparked a 7-0 Washington run, which Andre Miller capped with a fade-away jumper. Neither team led by more than four the rest of the way.

Felton gave the Knicks an 84-83 lead with two free throws at 2:57. Both teams then had empty possessions before Beal threw down an emphatic slam plus a foul in transition. Wall's floater at 1:44 made it 88-84.

Anthony finally got a jumper to go 11 seconds later to cut the deficit in half. Sloppy turnovers by Anthony and Wall then led to Felton's trey before Beal won it for the visitors.

Washington led 27-21 after the first but mustered just 12 points in the second quarter on 6-of-21 from the field. The Knicks took a 43-39 lead into the break.
