La Jolla, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Former All-Star Tony Clark, who has been leading the MLB players' union since executive director Michael Weiner died last month, has been appointed to take over for good.

The executive board of the Major League Baseball Players Association voted unanimously on Tuesday to make Clark the next executive director.

Weiner, who led the union for close to four years, died Nov. 21 at the age of 51 after battling inoperable brain cancer for 15 months.

Clark, 41, was elevated to the role of acting executive director under a plan approved in July.

His appointment is pending a vote by the general membership, which will happen "as soon as practicable," the union said.

Clark played for six teams in 15 major league seasons and joined the union in March 2010 as director of player relations.
