Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Jameson Taillon, one of the Pittsburgh Pirates' top prospects, has an injury to the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow and will undergo Tommy John surgery in the near future.

Taillon, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2010 draft, will need 12-18 months to recover from the surgery.

"Thank you all for the well wishes and prayers. I'm really blessed to have so many people that genuinely care about me! Going to be stronger," Taillon wrote on his Twitter page.

The 22-year-old from Lakeland, Florida reached as high as Triple-A last year and has pitched to a 3.72 ERA over his three minor league seasons.
