San Francisco, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The San Diego Padres reinstated starting second baseman Jedd Gyorko from the paternity leave list on Wednesday.

Gyorko returns for the rubber match of a three-game series against the San Francisco Giants after missing the first two games.

The 25-year-old's wife, Karley, gave birth to twin boys on Monday.

Gyorko has gotten off to a slow start this season and was hitting just .144 (13-for-90) with one home run and nine RBI through 26 games. He led all MLB rookies with 23 homers in 2013.

Infielder Tommy Medica was optioned to Triple-A El Paso after filling Gyorko's place on the active roster. Medica is 5-for-31 in 15 games for the Padres this season.
