(SportsNetwork.com) - Oakland Athletics slugger Yoenis Cespedes will defend his Home Run Derby crown.

Cespedes, who beat Washington's Bryce Harper in last year's final, was one of three players picked Tuesday by American League derby captain Jose Bautista of the Toronto Blue Jays.

Bautista also selected Baltimore Orioles outfielder Adam Jones and Minnesota Twins second baseman Brian Dozier, who is not on the AL All-Star team but will be a home favorite.

The competition will be held next Monday at Minneapolis' Target Field on the eve of the All-Star Game.

National League captain Troy Tulowitzki of the Colorado Rockies picked Miami's Giancarlo Stanton, who leads the NL in with 21 home runs and frequently makes highlight clips with his long drives.

Tulowitzki also picked Dodgers star Yasiel Puig and Cincinnati's Todd Frazier. Puig has hit 12 homers this season, the fewest of the bunch.

A final competitor for each team will be announced Thursday.

In a new format this year, there will be a maximum of seven outs per round and a bracketed competition after the first round. The first-round leader for each team will move directly into the semifinals.
