Recap: San Francisco vs. Colorado
San Francisco, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Justin Morneau's pinch-hit, two-run double in the eighth inning lifted the Colorado Rockies to an 8-7 victory over the San Francisco Giants, completing a three-game sweep at AT&T Park.
Troy Tulowitzki started the inning with a base hit off reliever Juan Gutierrez (1-2). Drew Stubbs's triple off the right-field wall pulled Colorado within 7-5. Michael McKenry cut the deficit to one by beating out an infield single. Following a walk and a fielder's choice, Morneau lined a go-ahead, two-out double down the left-field line off Javier Lopez to put the Rockies up 8-7.
The Rockies entered this series 0-24 when trailing after seven innings. They are now 3-0 in the last three games.
"The mentality of this club is different," said Rockies manager Walt Weiss. "We've been tested a lot early on with injuries...but these guys don't care. They just show up and compete."
Matt Belisle (2-2) pitched a clean seventh inning to earn the win, while LaTroy Hawkins worked around a one-out walk to secure his 14th save of the season.
Tulowitzki finished 3-for-4 with a two-run home run and two runs scored. Brandon Barnes and Josh Rutledge each drove in a run for the Rockies, who have won a season-high five straight.
Pablo Sandoval, Hector Sanchez and Madison Bumgarner each had solo home runs for the Giants, who have lost six of their last seven.
"What could go wrong went wrong late in the ballgame in this series," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said.
Tyler Colvin and Brandon Crawford both walked to start the home second. Ehire Adrianza singled to right to plate Colvin, and Crawford scored on a sac bunt from Bumgarner, who was safe on the play after pitcher Juan Nicasio's throw to first pulled first baseman Wilin Rosario off the bag.
After a bunt single loaded the bases, Hunter Pence drove in Crawford on a base hit to left to increase the lead to 3-0. Nicasio got the next three batters out to keep the damage at a minimum.
Colorado answered in the third when Tulowitzki smacked a two-run homer with two outs to pull them within one. Charlie Blackmon singled ahead of the blast.
Sanchez and Sandoval hit back-to-back solo home runs off reliever Franklin Morales in the fourth that made it 5-2.
With runners on the corners in the sixth, Barnes' groundout to third plated DJ LeMahieu.
Bumgarner led off the home half with a solo shot to push the advantage back up to three.
Colvin increased the cushion to 7-3 in the sixth with a single up the middle to plate Sandoval, who walked to start the frame.
Rutledge doubled in LeMahieu to cut Colorado's deficit to three in the seventh inning.Game Notes
