Recap: Chicago WSox vs. Arizona

Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Cody Ross had three hits and Wade Miley allowed just two runs over seven innings as the Arizona Diamondbacks continued their strong play of late with a 4-3 win over the Chicago White Sox in the middle test of a three-game set from U.S. Cellular Field.

Miley (3-3) was touched for just four hits and struck out six for Arizona, winners in six of nine. The D-backs improved to 5-3 on their current nine-game road trip.

"I made a couple adjustments in the last bullpen (session) and just kind of went with it," said Miley.

A.J. Pollock, Martin Prado and Chris Owings contributed two hits apiece in the win.

Paul Konerko homered for the White Sox, who lost for just the second time in seven games. Jose Quintana (1-3) yielded three runs on seven hits over six innings in the setback.

Chase Anderson is set to make his major league debut for Arizona in Sunday's rubber match. He will be opposed by Hector Noesi.

Miley was terrific early on, retiring the first nine batters he faced in order before Gordon Beckham led off the fourth with a single to left. Quintana nearly matched that, allowing just two singles through four innings, but got in trouble in the fifth.

Ross singled to start the frame and Gerardo Parra replaced him at first after a fielder's choice. Parra raced around to score the game's first run on Alfredo Marte's double down the left field line.

Owings then doubled to move Marte to third for Pollock, whose single to center made it 2-0. Prado's sacrifice fly plated Owings.

Chicago got two back in the home half of the fifth on Konerko's two-run dinger to left.

Miguel Montero's RBI single in the seventh inning scored Pollock to provide a crucial insurance run for D-backs closer Addison Reed, who struck out two in the ninth before serving up Alexei Ramirez's RBI single up the middle to make it a one-run game. Ramirez stole second to get in scoring position for Konerko, but Reed settled down and induced a grounder to second to end the game and earn his 11th save of the season.

"We tried to battle back there at the end, we didn't have much going on all game," said Konerko. "Mainly because their guy did great. Tip your hat to him. We fought back in the end, we were one pitch away. But Addison made good pitches there on me and that's that."

Game Notes

Arizona pitchers did not issue a walk ... The D-backs went 3-for-7 with runners in scoring position but left eight men on base ... Konerko's home run was his first of the season.
