St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - The Texas Rangers recalled Martin Perez from Triple-A Round Rock and named him the starting pitcher for Saturday's tilt versus the St. Louis Cardinals

Perez, a 21-year-old lefty from Venezuela, last joined the big league club for a split doubleheader on May 27th in Arizona. He absorbed the loss after allowing four runs -- three earned -- on nine hits over 5 1/3 innings.

Perez has compiled a 5-1 mark with a 1.75 ERA in Round Rock this season and owns a major league career record of 1-5 in 13 games (seven starts).

To make room for Perez, the Rangers optioned pitcher Joseph Ortiz to Round Rock. The lefty went 2-1 with a 5.08 ERA in 22 games over two stints with Texas this season.
