Ellis to open season on DL for Cards

Cincinnati, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - The St. Louis Cardinals placed infielder Mark Ellis on the 15-day disabled list to start the season, as the team announced their Opening Day roster on Sunday.

Ellis is suffering from left knee patella tendinitis and his move is retroactive to March 27.

Also, the team placed pitchers Jamie Garcia (left shoulder) and Jason Motte (right elbow) on the 15-day disabled list, with both of those moves retroactive to March 21.

The team purchased the contract of pitcher Pat Neshek.

Adam Wainwright will be on the mound Monday, as the Cardinals play in Cincinnati against the Reds to start the season.
