Flushing, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The San Francisco Giants designated second baseman Dan Uggla for assignment on Friday.

Uggla, a three-time All-Star, signed a minor-league deal with the Giants on July 21, three days after he was released by the Atlanta Braves, and was then promoted to the big league club on July 25.

However, in four games with the Giants he struggled both at the plate and in the field. He went hitless and struck out six times in 11 at-bats and committed three errors.

With the Braves earlier this season, he hit just .162 with two homers and 10 RBI in 48 games.

Uggla is a career .243 hitter with 233 homers and 690 RBI in nine seasons with the Marlins, Braves and Giants.

The Giants also designated outfielder/first baseman Tyler Colvin for assignment and purchased the contracts of shortstop Matt Duffy and outfielder Jarrett Parker from Double-A Richmond.

Colvin hit .223 with two homers and 18 RBI in 57 games with the Giants this season.
