(Sports Network) - New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman had some harsh words for Alex Rodriguez on Tuesday after the third baseman proclaimed he was ready to play in minor league games to continue his rehab process.

Rodriguez hasn't played all season after undergoing left hip surgery in January by Dr. Bryan Kelly.

"Visit from Dr. Kelly over the weekend, who gave me the best news - the green light to play games again!," Rodriguez wrote on Twitter.

His account was linked with an Instagram picture showing Rodriguez sitting next to Kelly.

Cashman, though, had a simple message for Rodriguez, which was to shut up.

"You know what, when the Yankees want to announce something, [we will]," Cashman told ESPN New York. "Alex should just shut the f--- up. That's it. I'm going to call Alex now."

The Yankees would not provide an updated timeline for Rodriguez's return, but he could be back by the All-Star break.

"I don't tweet and I don't really follow Twitter," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "As far as I know, he is not cleared."

Rodriguez is under contract by the Yankees for the next four years. He could also face disciplinary action by Major League Baseball for his alleged link in the Biogenesis scandal, the now defunct Miami anti-aging clinic.
