New York, NY (Sports Network) - Detroit Tigers pitcher Rick Porcello was handed a six-game suspension and an undisclosed fine by Major League Baseball on Tuesday for intentionally throwing a pitch at Tampa Bay's Ben Zobrist during Sunday's game against the Rays.

Porcello plans to appeal the suspension, which will be held in abeyance until the process is complete.

Porcello has started 15 games this season, earning a record of 4-6 with a 5.21 ERA and 68 strikeouts.
