Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - The Detroit Tigers signed pitcher Jair Jurrjens to a minor-league contract Wednesday.

Jurrjens made his major league debut with Detroit in August 2007 and went 3-1 with a 4.70 ERA in seven starts.

Two months after his debut, he was traded, along with Gorkys Hernandez, to the Atlanta Braves in exchange for Edgar Renteria. Over the next five seasons with Atlanta, he went 50-36 with a 3.58 ERA.

The 27-year-old right-hander signed with the Orioles this offseason. He allowed four runs on nine hits over 7 1/3 innings in two appearances (one start).

He was designated for assignment on July 12 and was granted free agency on Thursday.
