Orioles claim INF Phelps off waivers

Baltimore, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - The Baltimore Orioles claimed infielder Cord Phelps off waivers from the Cleveland Indians on Monday.

Cleveland designated Phelps for assignment on November 20.

The 26-year-old switch-hitter played in 65 games for Triple-A Columbus lat season, batting .267 with nine home runs and 46 RBI. He appeared in four games for the Indians as well and was hitless in nine at-bats.

Phelps appeared in 53 games for the Indians over the past three seasons and hit .159 with 11 RBI and two home runs.

With this move, the Orioles now have 38 players on the 40-man roster.
