Portland, OR (Sports Network) - Sophie Gustafson, a five-time winner on the LPGA Tour, announced after Friday's second round of the Safeway Classic that she is stepping away from the LPGA Tour.

Gustafson said on her twitter account, "It's with mixed emotions that I'm now choosing to step away from the LPGA. Thanks for all your kindness over the years."

The 39-year-old Swede, who rarely spoke in interviews due to a severe stuttering problem, had 14 wins on the Ladies European Tour and 10 other worldwide victories.

She was a three-time player of the year on the LET and a four-time Order of Merit winner.

Gustafson won the 2000 Women's British Open, the year before it became a major championship.

She also made eight appearances on the European Solheim Cup team and put together a 13-12-6 record, including a 7-1-4 mark in foursomes.
