Albuquerque, NM (Sports Network) - The University of New Mexico and head coach Bob Davie have agreed to a two-year contract extension.

Davie is now under contract through the 2019 season.

"We are excited about the direction of the Lobo football program on and off the field under coach Davie," UNM vice president for athletics Paul Krebs said in a statement Tuesday. "We are committed in building a program that will bring out pride in our fans. We believe, more strongly than ever, that coach Davie is the right man to guide our program toward that end, and the extension will help preserve the future growth of the program."

The Lobos went 4-9 during Davie's first year in 2012 and ranked fifth in the FBS in rushing yards per game (301.3). They set a school record with 10 300-yard rushing games last season.

New Mexico had gone 1-11 in each of the three previous years before Davie took over the program.
