Daytona Beach, FL (Sports Network) - Bethune-Cookman University announced Thursday that it has given a contract extension to head football coach Brian Jenkins.

Jenkins, who has led Bethune to Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference titles in two of his three seasons, had been one of the finalists for the head coaching position at Southern University until he removed himself from consideration earlier this week.

A finalist for the 2012 Eddie Robinson Award as FCS coach of the year, Jenkins has a 27-8 record at Bethune, with the two MEAC championships and two FCS playoff appearances. He was named the MEAC Coach of the Year this season for the second time.

"This is a place where I come to work each day and know that I'm surrounded by family," said Jenkins, a 41-year-old graduate of the University of Cincinnati.

The Wildcats had a 9-3 record this season.
