A big change is coming in how some older televisions can get local stations.
You may have already noticed the change since WKDH can no longer be picked up with an antenna on that type of television. That's because the station has switched from analog to digital broadcasting, and all full power stations will be forced by the federal government to make that switch on February 17 of next year.
What this means is that an older television using an antenna will need a converter to pick up WTVA, WLOV and WKDH. Those converters will go on sale starting next month, and the government is offering each household two $40 coupons to help pay for some or all of the cost of buying a converter.
You can apply for a coupon by going to
www.dtv2009.gov or by calling 1-888-DTV-2009.
Older televisions receiving WTVA, WLOV, and WKDH through cable or satellite will not need a converter.
