native of Aberdeen, Mississippi, Rachel currently lives
in Tupelo. A 2001 magna cum laude graduate of
the University of Mississippi School of Law, Rachel’s
undergraduate work was completed at Mississippi University
for Women, where she obtained a B.A. in English, summa
cum laude, in 1997. While in law school, Rachel
served as executive editor of the Mississippi Law Journal
and as chair of the Moot Court Board. Rachel is vice
president of the Lee County Bar Association and past
president of the Lee County Young Lawyers’ Association.
Rachel is also a member of the American Inns
of Court, William C. Keady Chapter, and the Mississippi
Defense Lawyer’s Association. Rachel has
served as a delegate to the American Bar Association
Young Lawyers' Division annual meeting for two years,
and her community activities include Big Brothers/Big
Sisters, United Way of Lee County, Tupelo-Lee Humane
Society, Retired Senior Volunteer Persons Association,
Relay for Life, and the Regional Rehab Center.
Prior to landing a spot at WTVA's AM Live anchor desk,
Rachel's previous television experience was as an intern
at WCBI-TV in Columbus. Having graduated from
college in December, Rachel found herself with some
free time on her hands, as her law school classes did
not begin until August. A friend introduced her
to the news director at WCBI, and she began work at
that station as an unpaid intern. Her first duties
included answering phones, making coffee, and finding
homes for the puppies born to the news director's dog. Soon,
Rachel graduated to writing stories and editing video
and was eventually hired as an off camera reporter.
Rachel so enjoyed her work in television that she contemplated
forgetting about law school and making news her career. That
same news director, however, told her she could always
work in a newsroom with a law degree, but she could
never represent a litigant in any courtroom if her
only training had been in reporting the news.
In her spare time, Rachel enjoys traveling, shopping,
and spending time with her fabulous dogs. |
