An upstate New York native, Jennifer was born and raised in Rochester. She
loved growing up in the Northeast, especially with the lake effect snow. Her
parents, twin sister, and older sister now reside in North Carolina. She loves
football and baseball, and is a fan of the Buffalo Bills and New York Yankees. (Yes, Dick Rice knows this!) Despite growing up in New York, she loves
Mississippi and its home town appeal.
Jennifer received her Bachelor of Science degree from East Carolina University
with a minor in Mathematics. Along with a degree, she received her Atmospheric
Science and Geographic Information Systems certificates. She also graduated from
Mississippi State University magna cum laude with a Masters in Geosciences,
with an emphasis in Broadcast Meteorology. In 2009 Jennifer won second place
all-around and in the graduate student division for the prestigious National Forecasting Contest hosted by Oklahoma State University.
Jennifer is also a storm chaser, having chased storms locally and in the Great
Plains. She has been storm spotter certified by the National Weather Service
and is a member of the North Mississippi Intercept Team. Her first chase was
the storm that produced the Caledonia tornado, which occurred on January 10,
2008. She chased the storm from Mississippi State all the way through Caledonia
and into Alabama.
During the summer of 2008 she went on the Great Plains Storm Chase, which is a field
study course offered by Mississippi State University. For almost three weeks,
she chased storms in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Colorado, where she saw five
tornadoes.
