I
was born and reared in Western Massachusetts, most of
which was a rural area in the 1940's and 1950's, when
I attended school. After high school, the Navy called
and as a result my next 21 years were spent on various
ships, overseas stations and a number of facilities in
the states.
My primary responsibility as a meteorologist at this time was to provide flight
forecasts to pilots, whether that be stateside, overseas or in the South China
Seas during the Vietnam era. One of my more interesting assigmnments was with
the "Joint Typhoons Warning Center" on Guam where I had the opportunity to work
with the "Typhoon Hunters," a unit which flew into the center of these storms
in order to obtain meteorological data.
In 1979, after 21 years of Naval Service, WTVA was looking to expand its staff
of on-air meteorologists and I was hired to provide weather for "Mornin'" and "Noon." The
good ole days with Buddy and Kay and getting up at 4:30am. I'll never forget
them.
Well, the years passed and committments increased along with the addition of
sophisticated graphic systems and dopplar radar. As a result, we presently
employ three full-time meteorologists. Through all this, our primary objective
remains the same. That is to provide the most accurate weather information
possible no matter what the circumstances may be.
I hold a B.S. Degree from Troy State University and did graduate work at Central
Michigan University. I am also a professional member of the American Meteorological
Society.
On a personal note, I have a daughter Debbie and her husband Grady, three
grandsons -- John, Bob and Scott, and a great-granddaughter, Lauren. Next to
God, the most important person in my life is my wife, Jill. Without her love,
support and encouragement, I would not be who I am now.
Over the past 15 to 20 years, gardening has become quite a passion. As a matter
of fact, some in the area think I grow a pretty good tomato. Although it's
been a number of years since I've resided in the Northeast, I still follow
New England professional teams closely. Mourning is still not over for the
Red Sox in their recent ALSC loss. I love the Patriots and still bleed Celtic
green.
