TOKYO (AP) — Toyota says it is recalling about 437,000 Prius and other hybrid vehicles worldwide to fix brake problems, the latest in a string of embarrassing safety problems at the world's largest automaker.

In addition to the 133,000 Prius cars recalled in the U.S., 14,500 Lexus HS250h vehicles are also being called back.

Company President Akio Toyoda made the recall announcement Tuesday afternoon at a press conference.

Toyoda says safety for customers is "our foremost priority."

Tuesday's recall affects models that went on sale last year. There have been about 200 complaints in Japan and the U.S. about a delay when the brakes were pressed in some conditions.

It's the latest in a string of embarrassing safety problems at the world's largest automaker.

U.S. owners will start receiving letters about the recall next week.
