COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) -- The Mississippi Department of Transportation says the Golden Triangle Regional Airport has brought more than $270 million of economic activity to the area.
All together, Mississippi's 73 airports contributed $2.5 billion to economy, but the Golden Triangle Regional Airport ranks third overall in the state.
“We are proud to be part of the tremendous economic growth in the Golden Triangle,” says GTR Executive Director Mike Hainsey. “The exciting part is that we are still growing as more industries and people look at making our part of Mississippi their home.”
The GTR airport expects to impact the area's economy even more with projects, like the GTR Global Aerospace Park, and other efforts to attract additional air service.
