TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA)-- Workers at a fixture Tupelo gas station pumped their last tank of gas Thursday shortly before noon.

After over 60 years of service, Savings gas station on Gloster Street closed.

Yellow caution tape couldn't even stop loyal customers from pulling in one after the other expecting a service they've come to love and appreciate.

"Some folks actually have never pumped their fuel because they always come here for our folks to take care of them," said Savings Oil/Dodgers Store's Vice-President Nat Leathers.

The Gloster Streeet Savings Gas Station was one of the last places in the area that actually had attendants pump fuel for their customers.

A luxury that is no more as of noon Thursday.

"The business model here with the economic times the way they are, the business model does not quite work like it use to work," said Leathers.

The family owned business does have 2 other locations in Tupelo, but those gas stations are self serve.
