BOONEVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) -- An Alabama woman has been convicted of murder in the shooting death of her mother.

A Prentiss County jury returned the verdict Friday morning against Rebecca Lynn Jones of Lexington.

She charged with murder in the shooting death of Jane Jones, 66, at a home on Highway 4 near Booneville in May of 2010.

Jones was sentenced to life in prison and ordered to pay a $5,000 fine.

District Attorney Trent Kelly says he feels the jury's decision followed the evidence presented in the case.

Jones' attorney, who contends she didn't intend to shoot her mother, declined to comment as he left the courthouse following the verdict.
