IUKA, Miss. (WTVA) — A woman is dead following a fire in her kitchen at her apartment in Iuka.

The body of 57-year-old Elizabeth K. Brooks was found Friday afternoon by the apartment manager in a utility room off the kitchen of the residence on Pickwick Circle.

Tishomingo County Coroner Mack Wilemon said it's believed Brooks died from smoke inhalation.

According to Wilemon, the fire apparently started late Thursday night on a stovetop and burned itself out.

He added a family member came by Friday, could not get Brooks to the door and got the apartment manager to see what was wrong.
