WEST POINT, Miss. (WTVA) - Pink shirts, pink pants, pink head bands, even pink eye shadow!
It didn't matter, as long as the color pink was being worn.
Let's Go PINK Together is one way West Point Schools can remember those who've died from breast cancer.
Teacher Debbie Cunningham said, "My daughter's co-worker died seven years ago from breast cancer. My youngest granddaughter is named for Ms. Emma. She's six now."
It's not hard to find a teacher, staff member or student who knows someone who's battled breast cancer.
This system-wide show of support takes on extra meaning to them.
Senior Chelsie Laster said, "I've known a lot of people with breast cancer. A friend of mine, her aunt, is actually dealing with breast cancer right now."
Senior Alexus Turnipseed said, "It's to show respect to the family members of those who've had breast cancer."
Senior Quinesha Robinson said, "It's to support them and show them we'll be there for them when they need us."
This day at West Point Schools is also a chance to remind the young men and women about the causes of breast cancer and ways to prevent it.
Cunningham said, "Women need to have mammograms. I never fail to do that. It's very important. I would encourage everybody to take that step."
Senior Alexis Webber said, "All women and men need to get themselves checked for it."
Organizers say if wearing pink means more people will be reminded to get checkups, the effort will be worth it.
