JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) -- The Mississippi Secretary of State has submitted proposed administratitve rules for a new photo identification requirement in the state to the U. S. Department of Justice for approval.
Delbert Hosemann say the rules reflect a comprehensive plan to implement Constitutional voter photo identification in Mississippi.
He says it includes procedures to ensure eligible voters without acceptable photo ID will be able to get one easily and free of charge.
Hosemann says the plan would allow people to get the identification from the county Circuit Clerk's office and provide transportation to those who need it.
The plan says 99 percent of people live within 20 miles of the circuit clerk's office in their county.
