(WTVA) — It appears there's a winner in Tuesday's special election runoff to fill an open seat in the Mississippi Legislature.
Unofficial results have Karl Gibbs defeating Eddie Longstreet in the race for House District 36, which includes parts of Clay, Lowndes and Monroe counties.
With 100 percent of the precincts reporting, Gibbs has 1,425 votes, or 54 percent, while Longstreet has 1,192 votes, or 46 percent.
The election was held due to the passing of Representative David Gibbs, who died in January.
Karl Gibbs is the son of Representative David Gibbs.
