WASHINGTON (WTVA/NBC) - The U.S Labor Department reports monthly employment fell from 7.9 percent to 7.7 percent in February.
That's the lowest monthly jobless rate since December 2008.
Overall, U.S. businesses hired some 236,000 workers last month.
The biggest gains were in the construction and manufacturing industries.
While the February numbers are encouraging, economists say the pace of gains is still below the 250,000 jobs needed each month to significantly reduce unemployment.
