TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- A teenager has died after being struck by a train in Tupelo on Thursday.
Tupelo police say the accident happened between Blair Street and Jefferson Street on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe track around 12:15 p.m.
Authorities say the teenager was walking along the track with a hoodie pulled over his head.
They add the engineer sounded the train horn several times and attempted to stop, but hit the teenager.
A set of headphones found at the scene lead authorities to believe the teenager may have been listening to music and not heard the train.
The teenager's name has not been released.
The accident remains under investigation.
