SHERMAN, Miss. (WTVA) -- A Marshall County man faces numerous felony and misdemeanor charges following a high speed chase on Highway 78 Tuesday morning.
Sherman Police Chief Joel Spellins tells WTVA.com Chadwick Lee Gammons, 44, was driving under the influence when he drove out of the parking lot of Wild Bill's Convenience Store in Sherman, spinning his tires on the pavement.
A Sherman police officer and Pontotoc County sheriff's deputy were across the street from the store and attempted to stop Gammons.
The chase continued through Lee and Itawamba County before crossing into Alabama.
Gammons was taken into custody after his vehicle crashed near Hamilton.
Authorities say he has a previous arrests for felony fleeing in northwest Mississippi.
Spellins says Gammons is currently being held in the Marion County, Alabama jail for DUI, illegal possession of a prohibited beverage, and violation of open container.
The charges were filed by the Alabama Highway patrol.
Gammons was transferred back to the Lee County jail Tuesday evening and is charged with felony eluding a law enforcement officer in a motor vehicle.
Police in Tupelo, Fulton, and Hamilton, Alabama along with deputies from Lee County, Itawamba County, and Marion County assisted with the chase and arrest.
