OKOLONA, Miss. (WTVA) -- The driver of an 18-wheeler involved in a traffic accident Monday morning in Monroe County has died.
MHP Corporal Criss Turnipseed tells WTVA.com Chad Blankenship, 32, of Humboldt, Tennessee died at the North Mississippi Medical Center Monday afternoon.
Blankenship was airlifted from the scene of the accident on Highway 45 Alternate north of Okolona.
The accident happened around 11 a.m. and forced authorities to rerout traffic around the scene of the accident until the scene could be cleared.
Rescue crews worked for over a half-hour to remove Blankenship from the vehicle.
Authorities say he was wearing his seatbelt.
Cpl. Turnipseed says the driver and passengers in the other truck were not injured.
The accident remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
