TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- Even if you didn't know who they were, it didn't take much to figure out who the grandparents were at Avonlea in Tupelo.
They were the ones who seemed to have the biggest smiles as they were treated to an afternoon with kids and grandkids.
For the grandparents, it's a special day.
Just ask Loraine Wesson and her family.
"Well I've got my grandchildren and my great grand children and all of these friends and just having a great time," Wesson said.
"In addition to Grandparents Day, Sunday was her 89th birthday," said her daughter Amelia Anglin of Shannon.
Speaking of birthdays, Annie B. Stith could be considered an expert.
She's a hundred years old and has been grandmother for hundreds of kids, having taught school for 42 years.
"I'm one hundred, going on the second hundred," Stith said. "I feel good, I'm living with the man upstairs."
"This is one of the missions of 4-H club. We go out and do volunteer service and we wanted to make sure she had a good day. She's one of our older members that we visit quite often," said Teresa Fields, a 4-H volunteer.
The Davises of Baldwyn are retired school teachers who have lived at Avonlea for just over a year.
They were treated to a special visit Sunday afternoon as well.
'Enjoy getting to come and see my parents. We live next door to each other before they moved to Avonlea. And we don't get to see them as much as we'd like to, but we try to see them at least once a week," said their son Neal.
For Marene Garett, everyone got to hear her granddaughter Caylan Lackey of Tupelo.
It only helps to make Grandparents Day a little more special.
"And we try to have a big celebration for everyone to come and visit and unite. And some grandkids don't get here real often, so this is a good chance for them to come," said Avonlea director Shirley Bennett.
This was a day that these grandparents won't soon forget.
There about 67 grandparents at Avonlea Assisted Living facility.
Facililty operators there say Grandparents Day is the biggest day of the year, surpassing both Mother's and Father's Day.
