TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- One Tupelo Physical Education teacher is at the top of her game.

That's according to Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation.

Terry Leigh Clayton is one of six All Star Teachers of the Year.

Clayton was completely caught off guard during a ceremony held at the school.

The foundation also presented a $1,000 check to go to the school's P.E. program.

"Teaching healthy habits and teaching how important fitness is means everything," Clayton said.

"We applaud Terry Leigh's efforts to help her students become healthier. We know that healthier students perform better in the classroom," Foundation Executive Director Sheila Grogan said.

Teachers are nominated based on the enthusiasm and commitment to fitness programming, creativity and dedication to students among other factors.
