TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) — The city of Tupelo is asking people who want to help with the tornado recovery to register with a local non-profit agency instead of going it alone.

City spokesperson Sarah Robinson says those people are being encouraged to sign up online with the United Way of Northeast Mississippi.  You can do so by clicking here.

Robinson says the help is appreciated, but officials don't want anyone getting hurt as workers make repairs and clear debris.

Volunteers who register will be called and asked to serve in areas where the need is greatest.
