TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - Tammi Coggins at Parkway Elementary School in Tupelo stays busy preparing a weekly e-newsletter.
Parents sign up for the newsletter which provides information on events and other items they should know about at their child's school.
Coggins said, "The academic focus is important. The important dates that are coming up, date changes and so forth are good reminders on the newsletter for the parents."
Principal Anna Guntharp said, "I think they especially appreciate knowing what our academic focuses are for the week. That way they can help their students at home."
The e-newsletter is new this year for K-6 schools.
The middle and high schools already have newsletters that go out.
Each school in Tupelo does its newsletter a little differently.
However, the one common goal of the newsletters is more parental involvement.
Coggins said, "We have over 350 parent emails so far. But we'd like to have more."
Teachers in each grade contribute to help make the newsletter a success.
School officials say it makes it easy on parents who can just click on their email at anytime to keep up with happenings at their child's school.
Guntharp said, "We really need the support of our parents to be highly successful. A key component to that is communication."
Educators say they welcome any and all ideas that can make their new way of reaching out to parents even better.
Parents who want to sign up for the newsletter from Parkway or any school can go to the Tupelo Public School District's web site.
Find the tab and then just enter the email address where you'd like to receive the newsletter.
