TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -   Tupelo city council members Thursday afternoon began to review the proposed extensive development code book.

The book of regulations oversees the how, where and what can be built in the city, whether it's business or residential.

Tupelo officials say the new, more than 300-page code book is designed to meet the city's 2025 Comprehensive Plan passed several years ago.

B.J. Teal, Director of Development Services, says "We want to upgrade our core community.  Parts of it have declined over the years.  We want to increase walk ability, we want to improve infrastructure, landscaping, all the different issues that create that quality of place in our community."

Teal says that she hopes council members will be able to pass the new development code sometime in May.
